the name Wyandotte comes from the Native American tribe Wyandots (or Wendats) who occupied the surrounding areas of Lake Ontario - modern day New York and Ontario, Canada. Given the climate they were developed in - it's no wonder this breed is so cold hardy. They have deep, wide bodies covered in dense, close-fitting feathers to keep them warm; they also sport a small rose comb that is less suscepitble to frostbite. Hens are generally docile. occasionally broody and a good egg layer of brown eggs. Roosters are sometimes aggressive - making them good protectors. Mature weight 6.5 to 8.5 lbs. Good layer. Occasionally broody. Cold tolerant.
Must order a minimum of 10 chicks.
