The Buckeye is the only breed developed by a woman accepted in the APA. They were named 'Buckeye' in honor ot their creator Nettie Metcalf's home state of Ohio. She succeeded in creating a functional, winter hardy bird that would perform well on the farm. They have a higher yield of thigh, wing and breast meat. Mature weight 7 to 9 lbs. Good layer. Typically broody. Dual-purpose.
